Skipper Certification
2 Hours / $75 per person
In order to rent a SailMaine J22 each sailor must be certified by a SailMaine instructor to ensure safety and experience. Certification check list.

Hourly Rentals
$75.00 per hour / 5 Hour Punch Card – $299
Our J/22 are available for rent to skippers who have been certified by SailMaine staff. Up to three guests may accompany the skipper.
Rental Hours: Boats are available from 10:00AM to 6:00pm 7 days a week based on availability.

$250.00 Security Deposit on all rentals.

All skippers must be at least 18 years old and certified. Certification is earned in a variety of ways.
Passing a one-hour Skipper Certification and on the water assessment
($60 fee. If a renter does not meet the requirements for certification, the fee paid will be credited toward a Basic Sailing or Refresher course at SailMaine.)
Passing the Skipper Certification at the end of a full SailMaine beginner or intermediate sailing course.
Taking a Refresher Course that results in Skipper Certification (Renter must indicate that he/she would like to be certified).
In rare cases, renters may be granted certification based on resume or our familiarity with the renter’s experience. All decisions to grant certification will be made by the Program Director.
Certifications are good for two (2) years from the date of your last sail. All rentals are for a minimum of two hours, which includes rigging/derigging time. SailMaine has the right to refuse a rental for any reason.

Have a friend or family member that you would like to share the benefits with? Another skipper can be added to your PortPass as a PortPass Partner****. This way, you both can have access to our boats, even when you aren’t able to sail together.
Only caveat: as a partnership you can only have one boat from our fleet out a time.

*During SailMaine’s scheduled rental hours. Reservations accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, no more than 7 days prior to sailing.
**Sailors must be certified by a member of the SailMaine Rental Staff prior to taking one of our boats out. Should additional experience be required, PortPass holder will be offered discounted lessons or a refund of their PortPass fees.
***PortPass Sailor is responsible for race registration with the organizing authority and preparing/delivering boat to the event.
****Each Partner will need to complete our skipper certification process. Under a shared PortPass, only one boat may be rented at a time.
