Class Descriptions
2008 Schedule
Session I: June 23 – July 11 (no class July 4)
Session II: July14– August 1
Session III: August 4 – Aug 22
During all three sessions we will offer the following classes:
Frosty : M-F 9am-12pm
This beginner course is designed for kids 8 to 9, stressing basic sailing skills, confidence building and water safety. This is a morning class.
Beginner Optimist: M-F 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm
A course intended for 10 to 12-year-olds who are new to sailing. Younger students with prior experience may also enroll. As with the Frosty class, this course focuses on basic sailing skills, confidence building and water safety. Offered in either the morning or the afternoon session.
update 5/12/2008: This course is closed for sessions One and Two, both morning and afternoon, and session Three AM. There are six open spots for session Three PM.
Intermediate Optimist: M-F 9am-12pm
For sailors who have completed Beginner Opti or its equivalent. This successor to Beginner Opti focuses on developing sailing skills and an introduction to racing. This is a morning class.
Advanced Optimist: M-F 1pm-4pm
A higher level Optimist course designed for kids who have demonstrated the skills needed to participate in more advanced sailing activities, including racing. An afternoon class.
Frosties and Optis are both singlehanded boats.
Beginner 420: M-F 9am-12pm
For sailors 13 and older who are new to sailing stressing basic skills, confidence building and water safety. 420s are double-handed boats; sailors must weigh over 100 lbs. A morning class.
Intermediate 420: M-F 1pm-4pm
A higher level 420 course designed for kids who have demonstrated the skills necessary to participate in more advanced sailing activities, including racing. An afternoon class.
420 Race Team : M-F 1pm-4pm
Our most experienced sailors compete in interclub and regional regattas both at home and away. An afternoon class. By invitation only.
420s are doublehanded boats.
Keelboat: M-F 9am-12pm or 12pm-4pm
For sailors 13 and older who have completed Beginning 420 or the equivalent who wish to learn to sail keelboats. This class does not emphasize racing. Offered in either the morning or afternoon session.
