Boats

SailMaine, in conjunction with the University of Southern
Maine, currently owns and utilizes the following fleets of
boats at the Casco Bay Community Boating Center:
-
18 Vanguard Collegiate 420s, a sturdy, relatively high
performance 14' double-handed racing dinghy utilized in
our College, High School, and summer Junior Programs, as
well as Maine Special Olympics Sailing. These boats have
sails colored for Team Racing and are used for all High
School and College racing events as well as summer Junior
team race events.
-
8 DeWolf Ynglings, a 21' Keelboat, designed for three
sailors, but capable of being sailed by 2 to 4, they are perfect for our learn to sail and one-design racing activities.
The Ynglings are an ideal entry level racing boat, and
we hope to use them as a trainer for local Etchells and
J24 fleets. Since 2004, the Yngling has been the Women's
Keelboat at the Olympic Games. SailMaine looks forward to supporting a Maine-based Women's team.

- 20 Cape Cod Frosties, a 6'4" single handed boat designed
for Adult Frostbiting and utilized in our program for summer
Junior Sailing.
- 2 Compass Project Optimists, an 8' single handed youth
boat designed for basic sailing and racing. The Optimist
has become the largest youth one-design class in the world,
with currently around 180,000 Optimists sailed in almost
every country on earth. These boats were built and donated
to SailMaine by the Compass Project.
- 1 Laser, a 14' single handed racing dinghy that is the
Open Single-Handed Yacht at the Olympic Games.
