SailMaine offers several sessions of a 15-hour Learn to Sail course for anyone 18 and over in our fleet of 21-foot DeWolf Ynglings, Sea Sprite 23s or other keelboats.
The course gives new sailors a thorough introduction to the basics of sailing a small boat, including rigging and derigging, the physics of sailing, points of sail, getting underway and returning, tacking, jibing, helming, sail trimming and safety. A low 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio ensures lots of personal attention and time at the helm. Courses take place during the week or on weekends starting May 19th and ending October 5th. Click for registration or schedule information, or follow the sub menu links. Here are some of our Ynglings in action:

The Yngling was designed by Norwegian Jan Linge for his son Oyvin and as a "little sister" to or trainer for the Olympic-class Soling keelboat. Since that time, the Yngling has gained in popularity and is now itself the Women's Keelboat entry at the Summer Games, while the Soling is no longer an Olympic boat. The Yngling is a great racing boat, but it is also comparatively simple in design and rig, and is therefore a wonderful boat on which to learn to sail. It is big enough to impart a sense of security to novices, yet small enough to allow the feel of a small boat which is so important to learning to sail well.
Our Fleet of Ynglings waiting for You!
SailMaine also offers winter
frostbiting opportunities in
our fleet of eight 2000 DeWolf
Ynglings, for experienced sailors.
