ABOUT FRANK PIZZO: Frank is the Head Coach of the Bowdoin College Sailing Team. He is the former Program Director at Ida Lewis Yacht Club and the current Head Sailing Instructor at Larchmont Yacht Club in New York. Frank was a four-year varsity sailor for Bowdoin and was voted three time Most Valuable Skipper. He is still an active team racer and still competes in the competitive New England Team Race circuit in v-15s.
Team Racing is Frank's favorite part of the sport to coach. A team must be fast enough in order to play the game and once teams are evenly matched speed wise; it is a then a matter of recognizing and executing the proper play. At Bowdoin, we spend a lot of time with the team breaking down each leg of the course and extensively discuss scenarios that take place. The team often discusses how fleet racing applies to team race situations so sailors can see the bigger picture.
ABOUT MARK DINNEEN: Mark Dinneen joined the Bowdoin Sailing Team as Assistant Coach in the Fall of 2008. Dinneen has had much experience coaching at elite junior sailing programs throughout New England. Coach Dinneen is currently working with the Brenton Cove Junior Race Team, out of Newport, Rhode Island. Dinneen brings to the table extensive Team Racing experience, competing in the last three U.S. Team Racing National Championships.
Dinneen graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in Computer Science. During his time at Bowdoin, Dinneen led the team to a new level of national recognition. Sailing A division for Bowdoin three of his four years, Dinneen led his team to qualifying for three New England Team Race Championships as well as the team's first varsity level Intersectional victory. Dinneen was elected captain and Most Valuable Skipper his junior and senior years.
Dinneen stays fresh by competing in many classes, from J24s to Vanguard 15s to Interclub dinghies. He enjoys competing in the Rhode Island Team Racing Association (RITRA) summer regattas.
