2009 CT State High School Championship

US Coast Guard Academy - May 9, 2009

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS (Results below):
Saturday morning brought rain and no wind. Racing was postponed until 10:45 when three races were sailed in each division on a modified triangle course. The breeze varied from the S/SSE/SE directions with 3-8 knots. Heavy fog rolled in while race 3b was on the last beat and the RC sent the competitor’s in for a lunch break, hoping the fog would pass through. After a 45 minute break, the fleet went back out and sailed three more races in each division. The breeze was fairly light and the current started to ebb causing several general recalls. A-Division sailed 420’s and B-Division sailed FJ’s for the entire regatta. There were several protests filed resulting in two DSQ’s and one request for redress which was granted. Thank you to the jury of Greg Hall and Larry Stannard for being on the water all day and hearing the protests.
The regatta would not happen without the Coast Guard Academy Cadets who finished final exams on Friday and volunteered their time to run a wonderful regatta. Among the volunteers, were five seniors who will graduate May 20th including Nick Custer, Emily Kehrt, Brian Komlos, Drew Bacon and Scott Balog.

Congratulations to Milton Academy who won the regatta by a convincing 43 point margin and to the Hotchkiss School for taking home the Connecticut High School State Championship perpetual trophy.
